Remodel standard power supply unit into a fanless one.

Return to the heat pipes. As I’ve already mentioned, the groove width in radiator is 3.95 mm. The pipe diameter which we want to fit into this groove is 5 mm. It’s obvious that to secede in this we must flatten it… The simplest and fastest variant is to work it up carefully with a hammer, but in this case the surface will be uneven and the contact with radiator will be not as good as we would like. To be able to flatten pipes evenly, we have to make one more device:

Thickness of the chosen washer spacers is the same 3.95 mm. I recommend using either bolt headed for spanner or screws with inner hexahedron: the effort for tightening is considerable and you may disrupt the screw nicks (moreover you need a mighty screwdriver). You get this as a result:

This is not the end. After the procedure described above the pipe became oval in section while the groove in radiator was fully rectangular. This means that the contact patch with radiator will have the shape of three thin stripes through which much heat can’t be transferred. What can be done? Of course, we have to reshape the pipe; there is no other way out. A radiator taken out of the same “dead” power unit suits perfectly for this purpose:

Non-constructive thoughts about modding...

All began when one day my neighbour, he is Automatic Control Engineer, came and started to beg me to give him one diode. When I asked him why, he typed modding in a search engine. And it had a great effect on me. I was sick about it. Maybe there is nothing accidental in the world and this modding seed fell into good soil. All my life I was interested in design.
